Fire set by trespassers causes no significant damage

HARTLAND – Police said trespassers on a Ridge Road property started a fire beneath a clump of pine trees sometime Friday, but it burned out without causing significant damage.

A resident told police that several piles of firewood were burned, with the fire singeing some tree trunks and also igniting grass and pine needles beneath the trees. The Gasport Fire Company responded to assure the fire was safely extinguished.

Deputies said that trespassers on all-terrain vehicles have been a problem lately, and that patrols would be increased in the area.
