WOODWORTH, Dr. Everett Wayne

WOODWORTH - Dr. Everett Wayne, Retired Surgeon Brevard, NC - Dr. Everett Wayne Woodworth, 90, a former Buffalo surgeon, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Dr. Woodworth was born in Buffalo, NY, and graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School. After serving his country in the armed forces, both in the Navy and Army, he joined his father's surgical practice in Kenmore, NY. Dr. Woodworth was affiliated with five hospitals in the Buffalo area, but ultimately chose to concentrate his efforts primarily on the Kenmore Mercy Hospital. There he served as Chief of Surgery for more than 20 years, and also briefly served as Chief of Staff. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Medical Society. He served as Secretary of the NY State Medical Society, and also as President of the NYS Chapter of the College of Surgeons. Woodworth belonged to the Park Country Club and Kenmore United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, loved to sail and maintained that snow skiing was the most fun sport he ever did. He retired from private practice in 1993, and joined his wife working for Hospice Chatauqua County until 1998, when they both retired and moved to Brevard, NC. Dr. Woodworth was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois Jeanne; son, Wayne; mother and father, Ruth Keeling Woodworth and Dr. Everett Atson Woodworth; step-mother, Opal Betzner Woodworth; and grandson Ryan Birmingham. Surviving are his son, Mark Woodworth and wife Vevian of Brevard, NC; daughter, Roberta Birmingham and husband Tom of Littleton, CO; sister, Dorothy Crozier of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Brevard.
