It’s time to bring back neighborhood schools
Well, my, my, my. A return to neighborhood schools is now being discussed. Let me tell you a story. Before busing, my wife and I both attended neighborhood elementary schools. We walked every day, and even went home for lunch. There were no crossing guards; our own classmates were the safety patrol.
We then went to neighborhood public high schools. We walked from the Bailey-Genesee area to Kensington High. There were no buses except for the handicapped, no free lunches and yet almost all students graduated, even though they came from different economic and ethnic backgrounds.
It’s the old saying: No matter how things change, they stay the same. Neighborhood schools – what a great idea.
