The University at Buffalo has notified its campus community that a registered sex offender has enrolled as a student.
In an email sent Monday, the university included a link to the state’s sex offender registry, which identifies Daniel Lampke as a Level 2 registered sex offender. The email stated the 21-year-old Lampke is enrolled in classes at UB, but not residing on campus.
Lampke’s charge relates to a May 2013 crime that involved the promoting or possessing child pornography. He was convicted in March and given a 6-year probation sentence.
UB police do not consider Lampke a threat to the community, but the university is required to notify the community when a Level 2 or Level 3 registered sex offender becomes involved with the campus, either through enrollment or employment.
Spokesperson John Della Contrada said this is the first time the university has had to issue such a notice.
