Student found dead in lake on Adirondack campus

ALLEGANY – State police say a 19-year-old student from Allegany in Cattaraugus County who was found dead near a lakeshore on the campus of Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks, had a seizure that led to his drowning.

An autopsy Wednesday determined that Nicolas Pendl died of accidental drowning caused by a known, preexisting seizure disorder.

His body was found on the shoreline of Lower St. Regis Lake around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the college in Franklin County. Troopers say he was face-down in the water a short distance behind a dormitory.
