Felicia Hughes, developmental center clerk

Felicia Hughes, of West Seneca, died Monday in Brothers of Mercy, Clarence, after a brief illness. She was 85.

Born Felicia Abate in Buffalo, she graduated from Hutchinson-Central High School in 1947.

While raising her sons, Mrs. Hughes started to work in 1967 as a clerk attendant at West Seneca Developmental Center.

She was responsible for clerical duties as well as assisting clients when needed. She retired in 1994.

A longtime member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mrs. Hughes was active in the parish senior club, traveling throughout the United States, including Nashville and Atlanta.

She and her husband wintered in Florida until recently.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Edward F. Sr.; four sons, Kenneth, David, Edward Jr. and Paul; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 3148 Abbott Road, Orchard Park.
