Niagara Falls man shot in a home invasion

NIAGARA FALLS – A 24-year-old man taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo on Monday after he was shot during a home invasion in the 1500 block of Beech Avenue remains in serious condition.

The victim, who was identified as Gary M. Todd Jr. , was treated in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and then transferred to ECMC.

Neighbors reported hearing arguing and about three to five gunshots early Monday morning, police said.

The victim’s girlfriend told police they were in bed at 2:40 a.m., when three men pushed in an air conditioner to enter the room. She said they saw a rifle, and the intruders “ripped” Todd out of bed and took him into the living room, where they demanded money. She said she heard a shot ring out, another demand for money and then another shot, according to police.

The girlfriend said they had put a blanket over her head but removed it and asked her for money. She said she gave them the rent money, $350, which was on the dresser.

As the intruders left, they told her: “He is gonna need an ambulance – you’d better call one.”

The girlfriend described the intruders as only three black males dressed in dark clothing.

The investigation was turned over to detectives in the Niagara Falls Criminal Investigation Bureau.
