Devin Scagnelli, 18, was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $100,000 bail by Cheektowaga Town Justice Paul S. Piotrowski today for the fatal hit-and-run incident on Borden Road in Depew that took the life of a Cheektowaga man Sunday morning.
Scagnelli faces a likely grand jury indictment for vehicular manslaughter-related charges in the death of Rickey J. Mullar.
Cheektowaga Police Assistant Chief James Speyer said Mullar, 47, was walking on Borden Road between Joel Drive and Strasmer Road when he was hit from behind by a car driven by Scagnelli about 7 a.m. The victim was declared dead at the scene. Speyer said Spagnelli apparently got out of the car he was driving and got right back in, only to be stopped about a mile north by an off-duty officer who witnessed part of the incident
The Buffalo News confirmed Scagnelli was still an inmate at the Holding Center downtown this evening.
The Cheektowaga Police Accident Investigation Unit is seeking calls from possible witnesses to the incident at 686-3580.
