Where we live: Orchard Park

The Town Board voted unanimously to pursue demolition of two abandoned office buildings on Chestnut Ridge Road.

During the almost 11 years that Andrew Geist has served as building inspector, there have been complaints about the neglected state of the former medical office building at No. 5285, and its neighbor and incomplete building at No. 5287.

Problems range from tall grass to gutters falling off and broken windows, Geist said.

The current owner didn’t respond to a notice sent in June, so the town will hire a demolition contractor this fall. Erie County will reimburse the town and the cost eventually will be added to the tax bill for the properties, said Geist.

“We have to do something,” he said. “He’s not wiling to fix them.”
