Cab stolen, driver stabbed in East Side incident

Northeast District police said a Liberty Cab was stolen after the driver was stabbed by a customer early Sunday.

The driver said he picked up a man at Fillmore Avenue and East Utica Street about 3:45 a.m., and was taking him to Kensington and Olympic avenues. En route, the fare attacked the driver and stabbed him in the middle of the left side and stole the vehicle, a 2014 red Dodge van. The assailant drove the vehicle back to Fillmore and East Utica and abandonedit in a parking lot. Police used a Global Positioning System unit to find the vehicle after checking with a Liberty Cab dispatcher.

The injured cab driver was located walking down Kensington Avenue and was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
