Head of Westfield utility electrocuted on the job

WESTFIELD – The superintendent of the electrical utility for the Village of Westfield was electrocuted Saturday while attempting to move a low-hanging wire, state police at Fredonia said.

William J. Boneberg, 62, of Westfield Electric, was attempting to move the wire near the 7600 block of Route 20 at 12:45 p.m. when the line broke and fell on him, police said. Boneberg was pronounced dead at the scene. Police ruled the death accidental.

Boneberg was preparing to retire at the end of the year, according to David Carr, the village’s former mayor, who hired him.

“He ... worked for National Grid for many years and was in charge of maintenance for them for many years,” said Carr
