LOCKPORT – A rabies alert was issued Friday by the Niagara County Health Department after the discovery that rabies vector species animals are being harbored at the Lakeview Animal Sanctuary at 5180 Fiegle Road in the Town of Pendleton.
The sanctuary’s operator, Sandi Pfohl, does not have the proper licensing from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the health department said.
There have been reports that volunteers have been handling, feeding and caring for the small animals, which could include raccoons, skunks and foxes, both inside buildings and outside on the property. As a result, anyone who has been active at the sanctuary over the past six months is urged to contact the health department immediately to discuss potential exposures. The department can be reached at 439-7444.
