Amherst man arrested for DWI after accident

An Amherst man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after Buffalo police were called to a minor traffic incident at Main Street and Northrup Place about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police said they found Mitchell Fanin, 25, of Kaymar Drive, sitting in his parked Jeep Cherokee with the keys in the ignition. They said they noticed that he had “glassy eyes, slurred speech (and) a strong smell of alcohol.”

Fanin was taken to Erie County Medical Center for observation after he vomited in police headquarters downtown, according to a police report, then was returned to headquarters to complete the booking process.
