Akron woman driving without hands on wheel charged with driving while impaired on drugs

A 31-year-old Akron woman was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs in Akron late this morning and then turned over to North Tonawanda police who had an outstanding arrest warrant pending against her, Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported.

Deputy Sheriff Robert Kolmetz pulled over Amy Capozzi on Buell Street in Akron after he noticed she was driving with both hands off the wheel of her vehicle about 11:38 a.m. After she refused to submit to any chemical tests she was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlicensed driving and lack of control of the steering mechanism and a number of V&T offenses, officials said.

After being ordered to appear in Newstead Town Court for proceedings in several weeks she was turned over to North Tonawanda police who had an unrelated arrest warrant out for her, the sheriff said.
