Man, 20, charged after ATV crash injures him, 16-year-old passenger

A 20-year-old Fredonia man was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after he and a 16-year-old Jamestown girl were thrown from an ATV at 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Hahn Road in the Town of Pomfret, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s department reports.

Darien R. Draggett of Hahn Road, Fredonia, told deputies he was driving the ATV on private property after drinking alcoholic beverages when the chain on the ATV seized up, causing the vehicle to lurch to the left and overturn, ejecting both Draggett and his 16-year-old passenger. Neither Draggett nor the girl were wearing helmets.

The two returned to Draggett’s home, and he was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor shoulder injuries. The 16-year-old girl was taken to the Cassadaga Fire Department where she was examined by emergency personnel, then taken by ambulance to Brooks Memorial for treatment of a possible head injury. Both were treated and released.
