* The numbers were better than expected for two-time defending state champion Randolph. Coach Brent Brown and his staff welcomed 60 prospects while they were figuring on 50. The Cardinals start the season on a 23-game winning streak, third best in NYS behind Maine-Endwell (38) and Babylon (24).
“The first thing we talked about is how we’re going to appoach it,” said Brown. “You have to remember it’s the work that gets you there and sometimes they have a hard time figuring that out. They look to replace their Big 3: RB Nigel Davis, DE Tyler Hill and LB Rod Payne. All three were first team All-Western New York selections. Darren Thompson and Ryan Conschafter will be among the players to pick up the load from Davis and Payne. “They are very skilled guys. Despite the losses, we still feel pretty comfortable where we are,” said coach Dennis Gilbert.
