Gasport man solves theft of his son’s motorcycle

TOWN OF LOCKPORT – When a Gasport man saw a familiar-looking motorcycle being pushed down High Street earlier this week by an unfamiliar man, he played it coy.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, the man spotted another male pushing a motorcycle looking suspiciously like the one that had been stolen from his son recently, police said. The man stopped his car, feigned interest in buying the dirt bike and agreed to meet the man pushing the cycle a short time later. After that, he phoned police and a sheriff’s deputy accompanied him to the meeting on Akron Street, where it was confirmed that the dirt bike was, in fact, the same one that had been stolen from his son.

The person in possession of the $7,500 motorcycle claimed to have no idea the vehicle was stolen, deputies said, and promptly offered information on the person he had allegedly purchased it from, according to reports. The cycle was returned to its rightful owner and an investigation is continuing.
