Under-17 Canadians reach fifth-place game at FIBA World Championship

Canada, which fell out of medal contention in the FIBA U17 World Championship on Thursday with a loss to Serbia, bounced back in the consolation round on Friday. Canada defeated China, 92-81.

Eddie Ekivor had 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Canada. Buffalo’s Howard Washington, the second-team All-Western New York selection as a sophomore who will be transferring from Canisius High School to Montverde Academy in Florida this fall, is on the Team Canada roster.

The Canadians today will meet Puerto Rico for fifth place in the tournament, which is taking place in Dubai.
