ESPN network to televise wing-eating championship

The world will be watching as contestants chow down in the 13th annual U.S. National Buffalo Wing-Eating Championship at 5 p.m. Aug. 31 in Coca-Cola Field. ESPN3 has announced that it will broadcast the 12-minute competition live from the National Buffalo Wing Festival.

“Having ESPN carry the event live brings the festival to a new level,” said festival founder Drew Cerza.

The field includes Joey Chestnut, the nation’s top-ranked eater and reigning wing champion; Adrian Morgan, the world crawfish-eating champ; Miki Suda, the world’s top-ranked female eater; and previous wing-eating queen Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas.

The two-day festival also includes a second eating competition, the Buffet Bowl, which will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 30. Contestants will try to be the first to polish off a five-pound bowl of Buffalo cuisine, including wings.
