It's the Fair's final Friday -- the fairgrounds' festivities have flown by.
Aggressive alliteration aside, the weekend will begin with a bang -- and probably several revs, thuds and roars.
Friday's featured event is the Lucas Oil Truck and Tractor Pull -- which includes the Western New York Pro Farm Pullers -- at 6 p.m. at the Gusto Grandstand of the Hamburg Fairgrounds. Tickets, which can be purchased here, range from $12 to $20, while kids 12 years old and under can get in for free.
Four different classes will compete in the tractor pull: Super Modified Tractors, Unlimited Super Stock Tractors, Pro Modified 4WD Tractors and Super Farm Tractors. For a more in-depth description of these classes, read this.
If you're a little foggy on what happens during a tractor pull, this Pulling 101 link and embedded video below should help out, but I'll do my best to clearly explain:
In each of the aforementioned classes, pure power and control are more crucial than speed, as the tractors, which take off one at a time, pull a load that increases in weight as the custom vehicles move down the track, slowing momentum and often preventing the competitor from completing the full 300-foot distance.
If multiple tractors cross the finish line, then the winner will be determined by the distance covered in a playoff pull-off -- like extra innings in baseball, essentially.
