Aug. 8, 1969: Big Buffalo Democrats raise funds

Decades’ worth of big names in Buffalo politics were photographed at a Democratic fundraiser at the Carpenters' Hall at Kensington near Fillmore.

Erie County Democratic Chairman Joseph Crangle also went on to serve as chairman of the state party. Buffalo Narcotics Division Chief Michael Amico was elected Erie County sheriff. Councilman Stanley Makowski, candidate for county executive, became mayor upon the resignation of Frank Sedita, who at the time of the photo was seeking re-election. Erie County Comptroller Henry Nowak went on to spend 18 years in Congress.
