TAILS WAGGING – Dogs will have their day Sunday afternoon as the Wilson Lions Club holds its annual Barkus Day Parade in Krueger Park, 350 Ontario St. (Route 18).

Registration begins at 1, followed by dog games and contests at 1:30. A costume parade for dogs and their owners follows at 2, with prizes to be awarded for contest winners and the best-dressed dogs.

Food will be available for purchase. Pet Supplies Plus will have a booth offering dog treats and other items. Admission is free. Donations will benefit the Wilson Dog Park. For info, call Elaine Bergman at 751-6673.


WASH AND DRY – Speaking of dogs, Niagara Aquarium Pet and Pond Supply Store, 1345 Military Road at Woodward Avenue, Town of Tonawanda, will hold a dog wash to benefit the SPCA Serving Erie County from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Fee is $5 for dogs of any size. For info, call 472-7475.


TIME OF NEED – Randy Lanthier and his family lost everything in March when a fire destroyed their home on Big Tree Road in Orchard Park. To help them recover, friends and family are holding a benefit from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday in the Kenmore Knights of Columbus Hall, 1530 Kenmore Ave.

FIRST EDITION – Fledgling author John M. Davidson, of South Buffalo, will hold his first book-signing session at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Dog Ears Bookstore and Cafe, 688 Abbott Road.

TREATS FROM AFAR – Armenian food, baked goods and other delicacies, along with music and dancing, will be featured Sunday at the annual Armenian Heritage Festival at St. Sarkis Armenian Church, 300 Ninth St., Niagara Falls.

The festivities begin at noon. Admission is free, and there will be a silent auction.
