Book signing, dog kissing on tap during Lockport Community Market

LOCKPORT – Author Madelynn P. Fredrickson will sign copies of her recently reissued book, “The Life and Times of Birdsill Holly,” from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday inside 57 Canal St., while the weekly Lockport Community Market goes on outside.

The 19th-century Lockport industrialist is best known as the inventor of the fire hydrant. Fredrickson was one of the original guides in 1975, when the Lockport Cave Raceway opened. It was originally dug to bring Erie Canal water to power Holly Manufacturing Co.

During the signing, the book will be available for $19.95, which is $5 off the normal price.

Also featured Saturday at the market will be the “Bark for Life Kissing Booth.” For a donation, market-goers can be kissed by Tanner, a dog who is promoting Bark for Life Western New York, a non-competitve dog-walking event and American Cancer Society fund-raiser scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 24 at Day Road Park in Lockport.
