BENEFIT – Buckin’ Up for Emily, a benefit to help pay for treatment for Emily Miller, a Grand Island woman with a rare illness that is shrinking her trachea (breathing passage), will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Island Rod & Gun Club, 1083 Whitehaven Road. The event includes food and drinks, raffles and other prizes. Tickets are $25 at the door, with children under 12 admitted free. PASTA PATROL – It’s spaghetti dinner time again from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stephen Sikora Post 1322, American Legion, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. Dinners are $7 and include meatballs, salad, bread and butter, and a beverage. For an extra $1.50, there’s a choice of homemade desserts.


CREATURE COMFORTS – Bring home something for your four-footed friends when you visit the 175th Erie County Fair, which opens today and continues through Aug. 17. Pet Connection Programs Inc., the special care shelter for dogs and cats in Marilla, will be offering Doggy Bags and Tabby Totes filled with goodies at their booth in the Bazaar Building. HIT THE ROAD – Buffalo City Mission hosts its eighth annual Motorcycle Run for the Homeless on Saturday in Gratwick Park on River Road, North Tonawanda. Registration is at 11 a.m. The 50-mile ride through Niagara County starts at noon. When the riders return, there’s a barbecue dinner, music and raffles.

SHIPS AHOY – All 114 entries have been sold out for more than two months for the Western New York Offshore Powerboat Association’s annual Buffalo Poker Run on Friday and Saturday, but boat lovers are invited to take a free look at the performance boats when the event kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday at Templeton Landing in Erie Basin Marina.

Saturday, boaters will launch from Erie Basin Marina at 10:30 a.m. to collect poker cards along a circuitous route that winds up at Mickey Rats Beach Club in Angola. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Excalibur Leisure Skills, which provides free adaptive fishing and boating for disabled and disadvantaged people. For info, visit
