NLL’s Wings headed to Connecticut

Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League are moving to Connecticut. The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, owners of the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA, have called a news conference for today to announce the acquisition of “a second professional sports team.”

Last month, the Wings announced they would be leaving Philadelphia after 28 years there, heading toward an undetermined location. Any such move would be subject to approval by the NLL’s Board of Governors. reported on Tuesday that Wings’ name and logo will not be making the trip to Connecticut. The league has hopes of reviving that franchise at some future date.

The team would play home games at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The facility can hold up to 10,000 people for an event. The facility hosted the 2002 NLL All-Star Game.
