Structural engineers are evaluating the bridge on Queen Elizabeth Way but the damage is significant and repairs are expected to take days, affecting many travelers over the long Canadian weekend. For those determined to make the trip, research alternate routes.

The Ontario driver of the dump truck has been arrested and charged with impaired driving.

Friday afternoon, traffic was already heavy heading into Canada. NITTEC reported wait times of one to two hours for Canada-bound traffic on the Peace Bridge, and 30 to 60 minutes for the Lewiston/Queenston and Rainbow bridges.

Also, authorities closed the Peace Bridge exit from the northbound side of I-190 at about 1 p.m.
