A storm was brewing over the changes in story selection at WKBW-TV 35 years ago.
While Channel 7 was still Buffalo’s most popular TV newscast by a wide margin, News Critic Mary Ann Lauricella pointed to discontent among the staffers and her own discontent over a story seeming to poke light-hearted fun at rape.
"Discontent growing in Ch. 7 newsroom"
“A story about a Blasdell man arrested on rape, sexual abuse and assault charges was followed by an abominable piece about a dog that is copulating with other neighborhood dogs.
"The second item was presented as a lighter, somewhat humorous look at rape. It was appalling. The only 'light' aspect I saw was the lightweight brain that put it together.”
