State’s easy ‘sweetheart’ deal rivals any business tax break
The News has written many articles about businesses receiving tax breaks. However, the best “sweetheart” deal has to belong to our own Department of Transportation.
While taking a bike ride on the parkway going to Beaver Island State Park, I noticed a state truck painting the lines on the parkway.
About 100 yards behind the painting truck was another state truck, just driving. Following the second truck was a third truck, about 100 yards behind the second, just driving. And to my amazement, following the third truck, again about 100 yards behind, was a fourth truck, just driving.
I guess we need to be thankful that there was only one person in each truck.
Now, I don’t begrudge anyone a job, but maybe the drivers could have been on lawn mowers and cutting the grass, which only gets cut twice a year.
Oh, I forgot to mention that about a quarter of a mile behind the fourth truck was a fifth truck, pulling one of those signs that flash with arrows to move to a particular lane.
The only problem was the sign was not flashing anything. The truck was just driving. Typical New York State efficiency.
Oh, by the way, the lines were straight and very pretty.
