Fire Chief Joseph Whipkey is playing it close to the vest when it comes to the fire department’s new pumper truck that just got approved by the village.
Whipkey knows how important it was for firefighters to get approval for at least one of the two trucks requested. It will cost $453,889 and will replace a 30-year-old pumper truck.
But the chief will not yet say which fire station, of the six-company department, will get the new truck. It will be either the Southside or Northside fire halls.
Whipkey indicated that it will remain unknown until the truck is built and arrives in Depew, in about 10 months.
The department may store the old truck for parts, he said. The remaining pumper truck, which also is 30 years old, will continue to be repaired until the department gets lawmaker approval for a new one.
