WICHTOWSKI - Jean, Ba (nee Summers)
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Jean Wichtowski on June 8 at the Lynmoore at Lawnwood Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility in Fort Pierce, FL. Jean was in her 102nd year. Special thanks to hospice nurses Michael and Blessed for their care and compassion. Born in Buffalo NY, Jean was the daughter of the late Austin and Alice Summers. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Alice, Kathryn, Margaret and Claire. Her first husband Julian Caster died in 1954. She is survived by step-daughter Judith A'Hearn-Crossman (nee Wichtowski) of Elmira, NY and Largo, FL, niece Mary Costello of Salem, MA, and nephew David Costello of Buffalo, NY, several great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean graduated in 1933 from Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. Soon after, she established the Jean Summers School of Business in Buffalo. In the late 1940's, she moved to Elmira where she married Doc Wichtowski in 1959. They moved to Patchogue in the mid 1960's where Jean continued teaching with the State. Doc died in 1969. After retirement, Jean moved to Salem, MA, then to Austin, TX, from there to Vero Beach, FL and finally to Fort Pierce, FL. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Jean's life takes place at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 1100 W. Church St., Elmira NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice.
