Lumsden McCormick staff accountant Zachary Newberry was presented the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International Award for Excellence in the graduate accounting programs at the Canisius College annual accounting banquet. Newberry is a graduate of the MBA program in professional accounting at Canisius and the University of Massachusetts. The award is given to graduating students who have excelled in the academic accounting program at Canisius and have demonstrated the potential for contribution to the profession.


The Buffalo Niagara Chapter of New York State Women installed Fran Vaughan, owner of FMV Tax Professionals, based in Holland, president. Other officers: president-elect, Pauline Hoffmann, dean of journalism/mass communication at St. Bonaventure University; treasurer, Kathleen Garvey, attorney; and secretary, Nancy Rizzo, life coach and owner of Smart and Simple Wellness.


Hunt Real Estate ERA welcomed Florence Russell, a licensed real estate saleswoman, to its Amherst branch. Russell has more than six years of real estate sales experience and sold more than $4.3 million in real estate last year in Western New York.

Transitions Home Staging & Redesign, which opened in 2009, has moved from its former location in South Buffalo to its new location in West Seneca. Kathleen Emhof, owner and lead designer, is a former realty agent and trained with the Academy of Staging and Redesign.


Tedesco Construction Services, a Niagara Falls a contracting firm, was awarded a 2013 $2 Million Sales Volume Award and a $5 Million Sales Volume Lifetime Award by Varco Pruden’s Buildings, a national manufacturer of metal buildings. The award was presented for total builder sales volume the past calendar year.


The Grainger Foundation, an independent, private foundation based in Lake Forest, Ill., donated $10,000 to Heritage Centers, a local nonprofit that serves more than 3,000 individuals with disabilities each year, in support of its mission to improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities. The grant will be used to help fund a new kitchen at its Maryvale School, located in Cheektowaga, for children with special needs and toward the purchase of new equipment that will allow school staff to prepare daily specialty lunches for the agency’s 250 preschool and school-age students.
