Bruno Pileggi, retired foreign language teacher

July 21, 1932 - June 22, 2014

Bruno Pileggi, of the Town of Tonawanda, a foreign language teacher, died Sunday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda. He was 81.

Born in Vallelonga, Reggio di Calabria, Italy, he moved with his parents to the United States. He earned a master’s degree in foreign languages from Middlebury College.

Mr. Pileggi served in the U.S. Army during from 1955 to 1956.

In August 1956, he met his future wife, Helen Fera. They married Jan. 7, 1961, in Masontown, Pa.

Mr. Pileggi taught foreign languages in Buffalo Public Schools, including School 45 International School and Lafayette High School. He retired in 1994.

Mr. Pileggi wrote articles for an Italian club magazine in Toronto and enjoyed making the frequent trips there to see family and friends.

His wife died in 2003.

He is survived by two sons, Vincent and Robert; a daughter, Marie Mulcahy; a sister, Antoinette; and two grandsons.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Town of Tonawanda.
