Workers at nine Absolut Care nursing homes ratify contract

Workers represented by Service Employees International Union Local 1199 at nine area Absolut Care nursing homes have ratified a three-year contract that includes raises, higher employer contributions toward health-insurance costs and first-ever payments into a union pension fund, according to the union.

The contract covers more than 900 certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, cooks and dietary, laundry, housekeeping and maintenance aides. The raises will total $1.50 per hour over the life of the contract, which also includes additional paid time off.

The deal is the third negotiated between SEIU 1199 and Absolut Care since 2008, when the union chapter organized the chain’s facilities. The nine Absolut Care locations covered under this contract are in Allegany, Dunkirk, East Aurora, Eden, Endicott, Houghton, Orchard Park, Salamanca and Westfield.
