Fire that destroyed Hamburg Olive Garden ruled accidental

A grease fire that got out of control triggered the June 14 blaze that destroyed a Southtowns Italian restaurant.

Town of Hamburg Police investigators ruled the fire at Olive Garden, 3701 McKinley Parkway, was accidental. The fire spread from the kitchen into the remainder of the building, according to Hamburg Patrolman Robert Palmer, who reached the conclusion with the aid of Erie County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit.

At the time of the fire, about 1 a.m., no one was in the restaurant, which had closed for the night about an hour earlier.
