Man shot on Sumner becomes weekend’s third homicide victim

A man shot late Sunday night on Sumner Street has died of his injuries, Buffalo police said this morning. Two other men were killed in weekend shootings.

The man, described as being in his early 30s, was shot at 10:45 p.m. while entering his home on the first block of Sumner Place, police said. His identity has not yet been released.

It was one of two shootings overnight.

Just before midnight, another man was shot on the 400 block of Woodlawn Avenue in what police believe was a drive-by incident. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. His name also was not released.

In addition, police today released the name of one of two homicide victims from over the weekend.

Deshawn White, 38, of Buffalo was shot and killed at about 11 p.m. Friday on St. Joseph Avenue, off Walden Avenue.

Another homicide occurred at around 4 a.m. Sunday on Pershing Avenue off Best Street, not far from Jefferson Avenue. Police today identified that victim as Victor Hernandez, 30. Two women – Stacey Homes, 40, and Natasha Coleman, 28, both of Buffalo – were wounded in that incident. They were both listed in fair condition today at ECMC.
