Federal grants will help pay for two Buffalo street improvement projects.

Parkside Avenue near Florence Avenue in North Buffalo will be narrowed in an effort to calm traffic following a federal grant award of $450,000 to the city.

The grant will be used to realign the roadway to soften a double curve. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2015. The road will be narrowed, shortening the distance for pedestrians to cross. Additional streetlights also will be installed, and signs and countdown timers will be relocated to accommodate the realigned roadway.

Bailey Avenue near Delevan Avenue on the East Side also will be improved, with construction beginning in the fall of 2015.

The city received a $108,000 federal grant for Bailey, which will fund improved roadway layout, signs and striping, as well as improve signal timing, countdown timers, accessible ramps and other pedestrian amenities.
