ROCHESTER – The Western New York Flash women’s soccer team started a four-game homestand on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars at Sahlen’s Stadium.

The Flash (5-6-2) scored an early goal and a late goal to earn the shutout victory. Lydia Williams earned the team’s second shutout in three games.

Brittany Taylor scored in the third minute off a corner kick while Samantha Kerr recorded her fourth goal of the season into the far corner in the 90th minute.

The Flash moved into fifth place in the National Women’s Soccer League standings with the win. Their next game is Sunday when they host the undefeated Seattle Reign (9-0-2) at 4 p.m. The remaining games of the homestand are against Boston on June 27 and Seattle again on July 2.
