About $9,000 worth of cigarettes are stolen in a truck heist

NIAGARA FALLS – A 18-wheel truck driver for Tripi Foods was making a delivery to a food store in the 1500 block of Main Street just before noon on Wednesday when someone alerted him that two men were removing cartons from his truck.

The driver told police that as he was stopped with the engine running, completing paperwork, the men had cut the lock on the back of the trailer and took 99 cartons of cigarettes, valued at $9,000.

The witness who alerted the driver was another truck driver making deliveries at the store.

Security video shows one man cutting the lock while another is laying on the ground looking for people in the area. Once they gain access to the truck they start throwing out boxes and then run off through a vacant lot, according to police.
