The man who showed the world the way to Margaritaville is going to help music-lovers find their way to the drive-in to help kick off summer.
Jimmy Buffett and his band the Coral Reefers will perform what is being billed as a first of its kind ‘Live At The Drive-In’ concert on June 19. The concert will be livecast via satellite transmission from the Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth, Texas, to dozens of drive-in theater sites across the United States, including the Transit Drive-In in Lockport.
The Transit announced the event today on its Facebook page.
The post noted that "with technological advancements in digital projection and satellite delivery, properly equipped drive-in theatres are now capable of presenting a live concert performance in high definition with ultra bright light output on outdoor screens a hundred feet wide, or larger. CD quality sound is delivered to each vehicle using high fidelity FM broadcast.
"With popular hit songs such as ‘Margaritaville,’ ‘Cheeseburger In Paradise,’ and ‘Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes,’ singer Jimmy Buffett has amassed legions of dedicated fans worldwide, commonly referred to as 'Parrotheads.' ”
Advance tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday and can be puchased on the Transit's website. Tickets also will be available at the theater box office during regular business hours, 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 to 11 p.m. Sunday.
