Lowdown: West produced video-game type numbers in leading Towson University to the Football Championship Subdivision national title game last year. Over 16 games in 2013, he averaged 157 rushing yards and 6.1 yards a carry. For his three-year career at the Baltimore, Md., school, he finished with 4,854 rushing yards and 86 touchdowns. Low test scores out of high school forced West to go to a prep school for a year, but then he still had no college scholarship offers. So he spent part of a year selling shoes in a retail store at a Baltimore shopping mall. He had to walk on at Towson, which was 1-10 the year before he arrived. With West rushing for 29 TDs, Towson improved to 9-3 in his freshman year. West is compact and powerful, with quick feet and outstanding balance. He could be a third- or fourth-round pick.
He said it: “I have a 5-year-old son. It's just amazing for me. I don't want my son to go through what I had to go through. If he wants to play sports, if not, I just want to put everything on my shoulders. There's a lot of guys in my area that are better than some of the guys who play in the NFL, but they get caught up in the streets and the negatives.”
