It seems to us: A pair of lifesavers, sagebrush racism and the Bills are thrown for a loss

It’s good to know that Russian President Vladimir Putin can depend on U.S. President Obama in a time of true need.

In an affirmative “got your back!” moment, the Russian president declared that despite their, ahem, difficult relationship – the worst U.S.-Russian relations since the Cold War – he believes Obama would pluck him out of the water if he were drowning.

Reporters followed that up with our prez, on the road in South Korea, who affirmed: “I’d absolutely save Mr. Putin if he were drowning. I’d like to think if anyone was out there drowning, I’d save them.”

Now that we’ve got that straight, the question is: Would Putin save Obama? Might not want to hold your breath on that one.

What is there to say about Cliven Bundy? Conservative news outlets made a folk hero out of the Nevada rancher, who has refused to pay grazing fees to the federal government, on whose land his animals feed and whose existence he denies. Too late, those commentators realized that Bundy was an American loony bird – or, at least, they realized that the public had caught on to it.

Bundy’s racist ideas on African-Americans and their inability to pick cotton, which forces them to have abortions, were so over the top that even right-wing media turned tail and fled.

Bundy doesn’t get it. And that, really, is the point. There are still lots of people out there who don’t.

It’s been a rough week for the Buffalo Bills, the kind that usually doesn’t happen until the season starts. At this rate, the team may have to consider drafting a lawyer.

First the Bills had to pony up $3 million to settle a wacky lawsuit over the number of text messages the team sent to fans who signed up to receive them.

Then the cheerleading Jills sued the team over their pay and working conditions – including a “jiggle test” – which they say were sometimes degrading. In response, the Jills organization has suspended all activities until, well, sometime.

When it’s all settled, just don’t tell the fans by text message.
