Wicks Road residents seek speed limit reduction

LOCKPORT – The Town Board this week agreed to ask the state Department of Transportation for a study of a speed limit reduction on Wicks Road.

The current speed limit is 45 mph, and 33 residents signed a petition asking that it be reduced, Town Supervisor Marc R. Smith said. The road runs between Lake Avenue, which is Route 78, and Slayton Settlement Road.

On another topic, Town Engineer Robert D. Klavoon said the town plans to replace 225 feet of 8-inch waterline on Heather Drive this summer. Four homes will lose water service for about 48 hours during the construction.

The board also voted to widen the right-of-way for Robinson Road to allow space for the construction of a pedestrian bridge over Donner Creek as part of an upcoming sidewalk installation. The county Water District, which has a 24-inch main in the area, agreed to the move, Smith said.
