Magistrate charged with drunken driving

A Niagara County Family Court support magistrate faces drunk driving charges after a two-car crash that closed part of the Robert Moses Parkway for several hours into early Thursday morning.

Timothy J. Cooper, 59, of Derby, who is also a judge in the Town of Evans, was driving a car that collided with another vehicle on the parkway near the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to state police.

The 74-year-old driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Erie County Medical Center.

Cooper was charged with driving while intoxicated and moving unsafely from a traffic lane. He is scheduled to appear in Lewiston Town Court on May 6.

The parkway reopened about 12:45 a.m. Thursday.
