Falls man risks 12-year sentence in treatment program

LOCKPORT – Lawrence E. Smith of Niagara Falls, a repeat drug felon, pleaded guilty again Tuesday and was admitted by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment.

Smith, 25, of Linwood Avenue, risks 12 years in state prison if he doesn’t get clean this time. He pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell for exiting a car and throwing a baggie of crack cocaine under the vehicle when police pulled up in the parking lot of the Caravan Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Falls Sept. 13.

The plea deal also wrapped up two subsequent drug arrests in Lewiston and the Falls.

Smith’s brother, James S. Smith, 23, of Dudley Avenue, and Robert L. Hilson, 22, of Chilton Avenue, remain under indictment in the motel case.
