Bills site declares Doug Marrone has cancer, pulls story sans explanation so far

The Buffalo Bills have yet to comment on a strange story that was posted on the team's official website and on its official mobile app for nine hours before being deleted.

Although buried under news tab, the headline was a jolt: "Coach Marrone announces he has cancer."

The first line read: "Head Coach Doug Marrone announced today that he was diagnosed with BLANK TYPE OF CANCER and that it is highly treatable."

Under a photo of Marrone read: "Head Coach Doug Marrone shared the news today that he's been diagnosed with BLANK cancer. He says it's "not aggrive" [sic] and highly treatable."

The story then holds a place to insert a Marrone comment: "QUOTE FROM MARRONE."

The Bills have not returned messages to The Buffalo News as of this posting.

Marrone spoke with reporters today as players gathered for voluntary conditioning, but he did not mention anything about having cancer.
