Power failure affects nearly 2,600 in Amherst

Electricity was restored Sunday evening to the roughly 2,600 National Grid customers in Amherst who were without power earlier in the day.

Power in the affected area was restored by about 7:20 p.m., National Grid spokesman Steve Brady said.

At about 5:20 p.m., outages sprung up in Amherst after a power line fell near National Grid’s Campbell Boulevard substation, spokeswoman Virginia Limmiatis said.

That led to a breaker malfunction which affected several areas in the town, including in the Hopkins Road area between North French and Klein roads, and east of Campbell Boulevard near Dodge Road.

Limmiatis said she did not know why the wire initially came down.
