Deputy, suspect tumble down Lockport hill

LOCKPORT – It was all downhill for a Niagara Falls man as he tripped while running from officers early Saturday after a reported fight at Main and Locust streets.

Lockport police reported that when they arrived about 3:25 a.m., they saw Johnny Calixte-James, 25, of 18th Street in the Falls, swinging his belt at a group of people. The suspect walked away and allegedly punched the right rear quarter panel of a Niagara County sheriff’s patrol car. The deputy, who was not identified in the police report, tried to arrest Calixte-James, who ran.

The deputy fired his Taser, which had no apparent effect on Calixte-James. He ran behind Urban Park Towers, 77 Main St., but tripped on a small downslope. The deputy tackled him and they both rolled to the bottom of the hill, where Calixte-James was subdued after a brief struggle.

He was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct.
