Richard A. Runfola, vice president of the Bailey Slipper Shop

Richard A. “Rick” Runfola, of East Amherst, vice president of the Bailey Slipper Shop, died Friday in his East Amherst home after a long illness. He was 53.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Runfola graduated from St. Joseph Collegiate Institute and Canisius College, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

He marked the fourth generation of Runfolas in the shoe industry since his great-grandfather, Angelo, came to the United States from Sicily in the 1930s.

Respected in the dance-education community, Mr. Runfola fitted many area dance students with shoes.

An avid golfer, Mr. Runfola was a member of Fox Valley Country Club.

His community involvement included third-degree membership in the Knights of Columbus. He earned his Eagle Scout ranking with the Boys Scouts of America while a student at St. Margaret School.

Mr. Runfola is survived by his wife, the former Stacey Cohn; a daughter, Marie; two sons, Richard and Vincent; his parents, Angelo and Mary; and two sisters, Carla Marinelli and Tina Bialkowski.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Road, Amherst.
