Home Depot grants $5,000 to Lockport veterans support group

LOCKPORT – The Home Depot Foundation announced Thursday that it has awarded a $5,000 gift card to SERV Niagara. The donation will be used to renovate two of Niagara County’s first houses exclusively for homeless veterans and their families. The group recently purchased the houses on Walnut Street.

“With approximately 895 homeless veterans and their families in this county, we can’t get the houses remodeled fast enough. We are updating kitchens, bathrooms, flooring and painting to complete the refurbishment of the first veteran-exclusive housing in Niagara County,” said Jennifer D’Andrea-Terreri, founder of SERV Niagara, which stands for “Support, Empower, Respect Veterans.”

Foundation president Kelly Cafarelli said, “The Home Depot Foundation is committed to ensuring that every veteran has a safe place to call home. We are proud to work with SERC Niagara in our efforts to give back to those men and women who have so bravely served our country.”
