Heart plays Seneca Niagara Casino

If you can make Robert Plant cry while you sing his own song to him, odds are high that you’re onto something.

That’s what Ann Wilson did during last year’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, as she, her sister Nancy and the rest of Heart feted the surviving members of Led Zeppelin at New York’s Lincoln Center, with a chilling take on “Stairway to Heaven.” Plant, one of the greatest singers in rock history, was visibly affected. And who could blame him? Wilson is another of rock’s greatest singers.

Shortly after that performance, the Wilson sisters and the rest of Heart were granted a well-deserved induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Heart, a feminine force in a rock industry dominated by men, had endured since the mid-1970s and stayed artistically relevant long enough to be officially deemed “cool” once again.

Of course, Ann and Nancy Wilson have always been cool. It was everyone else who changed, while they remained steady.

Heart performs at 7 tonight in the Seneca Niagara Casino Event Center, Niagara Falls. Tickets start at $55 (box office, Ticketmaster).
